To ensure you are fully prepared, please be aware that as of 1 January
2006, UK residents travelling in Europe require a European Health Insurance
Card (EHIC). This will allow you to benefit from free or reduced-cost
medical care when travelling in an EEA country or Switzerland. The EHIC
replaces the E111 and is free of charge. For further information visit

Useful Tips

Make copies of your passport and all other important documentation to
leave with your family or friends.

Leave a copy of your itinerary and your contact details with your family
or friends.

Make sure you have sufficient foreign money to use when you arrive.
It's worth remembering that most French autoroutes charge tolls (péage).

Get hold of a good guidebook and maps of where you are travelling.

Make sure you're familiar with local traffic regulations, including
speed limits; and also shop opening times (for example, in France most
shops are closed on Sundays).
